A DPF or Diesel Particulate Filter is a device designed to remove soot or ash from the exhaust of a diesel engine. DPF’s most of the time can remove up to 85% of the soot and at times, when working properly can remove 100% of the soot. A Diesel powered vehicle with a properly functioning filter should emit no visible smoke. Some of the filters in these vehicles are disposable and may only be used for a certain amount of time while other filters are designed to burn off built up soot. Overtime, these filters may get clogged therefore a method must exist to clean the filter. Maintenance is vital is the function of the engine because over time the build up can cause engine damage.
